How do I hang my art?

Our Top Tips – On how to hang your print

You’ve bought your print, and you know where you’re going to hang it. Now all you have to do is get it on the wall. Easy, right?

While this might sound simple, there are a few things to consider before you start making holes in your wall.

How high?

In some cases, your print will be hung above something else (like a couch, or a cupboard), so the height will be determined by this. In this situation, don’t hang the print too high; your print should maintain a connection to the rest of the objects in the room. If you have a bit more flexibility in hanging height, then, in the words of Snap, you’ve ‘got the power’ to choose the height yourself.

There are lots of different opinions on this subject, but basically your art should be hung at a height so that people don’t need to strain to see it. This is difficult to predict considering people come in all different sizes, so just pick a height that’s comfortable for you (after all, it’s your print!).

Groups of art should be treated as one piece, so you’ll need to figure out how big it is as a group, and decide the hanging height from there.

In terms of physically hanging your print, this will depend on the structure of the wall you are hanging your print. Consult your local hardware store for appropriate fittings for your wall, and be sure to pay attention to the maximum weight that should be used with each one. For more information, check out our guide to hanging here.

If buying your print from a store like One Fine Print, we will be able to give you helpful advice specific to the piece you are purchasing (because we’re nice like that).

Happy hanging!
