Story Behind the Print, All Natural

Red Mountain Canada Print
Red Mountain Canada Print

Elizabeth is a highly acclaimed landscape photographer who has been working in the industry for over 10 years. Inexorably drawn to the urban environment, her images are often heavily centred around shape and texture.
From the photographer:
“Mountains are the beginning and the end of all natural scenery.” – John Ruskin
The mountains in Canada are vast and practically undisturbed by human activities. On one particular afternoon, as the light was fading on the day, I felt like I was the only soul for miles. Having separated from my group, I skied around the corner on the backside of the mountain, stopped and marvelled at the scene before me. The grey sky, heavy with fresh snow, made for a truly captivating scene. It wasn’t the picture-postcard blue sky that many photographers look for. It was a scene that was almost monochrome, but raw and graphic, and rich with pattern and texture. I love that nature can create such harmonious patterns.
This print is part of a series taken towards the end of winter while journeying through Alberta and British Colombia. I travelled along the Powder Highway and right through the heart of the Rocky Mountains in search of great images and fresh snow to ski. I found both with little effort.
